For the longest time, Kenny was always covered in bruises from his knees down and his parents had an idea that he was suffering from some sort of illness, but they didn’t know what it could be. In June of last year, Kenny looked like he had developed pinkeye, his nose started bleeding and his mouth turned black. His parents rushed him to the ER, where doctors found that Kenny’s blood platelet count was down to only 2,000, when it should be anywhere from 350,000 to 400,000. The doctors also discovered that Kenny was suffering from internal bleeding caused by an autoimmune disease called idiopathic thrombocytopenia in which his antibodies are attacking his blood platelets. Kenny was started on a steroid regimen and he has been in and out of the hospital for bleeding out. He was also treated with a low dose of chemotherapy to allow his blood platelet count to rise and he sometimes uses crutches to help walk because of the pain in his hip caused by his steroid treatments.
For his wish, Kenny wanted to visit the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure. When he got there, he was amazed to see snow in Florida and he felt like he had just stepped into his favorite Harry Potter movies. Kenny rode all sorts of rides, watched all sorts of shows and was even picked to participate in the wand choosing experience at Ollivander’s famous wand shop in Diagon Alley! Kenny loved every second of it and he savors the memories just like he does the giant chocolate frog he bought in Hogsmeade.
