Chatting with Julio about his Shopping Spree Wish

Part of my job here at Kids Wish Network requires me to interview our recent wish kids and write a press release to send out to the child’s local media outlets. Getting press on our kids and our programs is good for us on so many levels. It allows us to spread the word about Kids Wish Network, find more wish kids and children who will benefit from our awesome programs and it also gives the kids a special little way to remember their Kids Wish Network experience.

Yesterday I got to interview one of our most recent Kids Wish Network wish kids, Julio. His wish was for a shopping spree at the Altamonte Mall near his home. Julio is battling cancer – a cancer that has metastasized – and his wish was considered a “rush wish” since he is having such a rough time beating the rapid spread of his illness. But, all of us here at Kids Wish Network are pulling for Julio, and we know that he will come out of this just fine!

While I had Julio on the phone, I got to ask him all sorts of questions about his wish and everything he got on his special day. Julio said he “couldn’t even describe” how nice it was to be able to go into the mall and get everything he wanted with no questions asked. Some of his most favorite items he bought were clothes, shoes, cologne and an Xbox 360 with plenty of games to play.

Aside from going into the mall and getting all he wanted, Julio loved being escorted around the mall by two officers from the Altamonte Police Department. He said he loved that the officers took time to escort him and he was impressed that they even carried all his bags for him. The officers made Julio an honorary member of the Altamonte Police Department, which was just icing on the cake for Julio.

It was so nice to be able to talk to Julio yesterday and find out all about his wish. Although we are not able to go on every wish that we grant at Kids Wish Network, by talking to our recent wish kids and getting pictures of their special days, it’s almost as if we are right there with them while they’re having the time of their lives!
