Well our gift bank event yesterday was a HUGE success! What’s that? You don’t know what I’m talking about? Oh my!
As you may or may not know, Kids Wish has many different programs that reach out to children in crisis across the country. As a matter of fact, we rarely have the opportunity to see the faces of the people and children we impact, because our programs are so widespread! But yesterday, during our Holiday in Holiday Gift Bank event, we were able to see firsthand what our work does for children.
One of our many programs in the Holiday of Hope Gift Bank, where we send millions of dollars worth of toys to children’s facilities across the country. This holiday season, we decided to invite 25 of our local Tampa Bay charities to come to our warehouse and pick up not one, but two pallets of brand new toys to distribute to their children. Of course, no holiday event is complete without Santa! And our Santa was by far the best I’ve ever seen! Check him out for yourself:
Kids Wish had so many amazing sponsors who pulled through and made this event extra special. We had food donated from McDonald’s and the AMAZING Doogie Dogs A Go Go, an awesome DJ (Steve Ur with Over the Top Entertainment), drinks donated by Sweetbay and Crystal Springs, a raffle basket that was kindly given to us by The Spiceman’s Kitchen and awesome volunteers from Kohl’s. Our staff members and friends also donated their time to make this possible.
Of course, the main event for this day was the toy pallets. Take a look at the pallets and some of the Kids Wish staff who worked hard on this project:
The above photo doesn’t even do the pallets justice! We have a very big parking lot and the pallets stretched just about the entire length of our space. Altogether, Kids Wish gave away over $500,000 worth of toys. These gifts were generously donated by many wonderful companies. Here’s another great shot:
All in all, I would say the event was a HUGE success. There was so much hard work and planning put in by many people and it really paid off in the long run. During this tough economic time, it is so amazing to be able to reach out to people and help meet some of the needs that are out there. We know there are so many children and families out there who need help, and even if we are able to make an impact on just one family or just one child, we know Kids Wish is serving its purpose.
Here are just a couple of fun pictures for your viewing pleasure:
