When I was a kid up north, on cold days I loved nothing more than curling up with a book under a warm blanket and getting lost in another place or time. However, you must remember that I was a healthy child and didn’t have any limitations, unlike the children we serve here at Kids Wish Network. For me, reading like this was just a fun way to pass the time when I couldn’t do or didn’t feel like doing something more active. For some of the kids we serve, however, reading is just about all they are able to do, if they have a book, that is.
You see, the kids we serve experience obstacles and limitations every day, whether it’s a debilitating illness or even homelessness. That’s why when 11 Borders book stores offered to do a book and toy drive for our Kids Wish kids, I was amazed. I was so excited for this opportunity and felt so grateful that a store like Borders would do such a wonderful thing! With this drive, they are helping to give these children a reason to smile, a reason to hope, but most importantly, a reason to know that someone out there cares.
Borders has gone above and beyond to help further our mission by helping us to reach out to hundreds of thousands of children a year. The Borders book and toy drive started on July 20, 2010 and ran all through August 30th, 2010. When I finally had the opportunity to see for myself what all had come into our warehouse, I was elated. There were all kinds of books for all different age groups, not to mention the toys and craft kits. There was a little bit of everything for kids of all ages!
So, for all they’ve done for the deserving children we serve, I would like to sincerely thank the Florida Borders stores from the bottom of my heart.
