Ty’s Disney Dreams Come True Thanks to Kids Wish Network and Local Sponsors

PERRYSBURG, Ohio (MMD Newswire) June 30, 2010 — A little boy with a rare life-threatening illness has the wish of his life thanks to Kids Wish Network and some fantastic local sponsors.

Six-year-old Ty was born with a condition called Treacher Collins Syndrome. His illness causes a deformity of the facial bones and tissues, which obstructs his airways. Ty was born without any ears and is 97 percent deaf without the aid of a hearing device. In his short life, Ty has had 27 surgeries. He was unable to breathe when he was born, due to the extremely small size of his nasal passages, and he had his first surgery – a tracheotomy – at just 4-days-old. He was trached for the first few years of his life, but is now able to breathe on his own.

After learning about Kids Wish Network through their website, Ty’s mother Karlyn gave them a call. It wasn’t long before little Ty made his one wish known to his wish coordinator: to visit Walt Disney World in Florida.

“All he kept saying was that he wanted to stay with Mickey…he was so happy,” said Karlyn.

When it came time for his wish to be granted, Ty and his family found themselves on a plane headed for a 5-day stay in Orlando, Florida. This fabulous vacation included a stay at The Royal Plaza Hotel, dinner at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater and, of course, tickets to the Walt Disney World Resort and all of the other major Orlando theme parks!

Ty and his family visited Universal Studios, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom. Out of everything he got a chance to experience, Ty’s favorite thing was the Star Wars “Star Tours” ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Now that they’re back home in Ohio, Ty and his family are enjoying the memories they created during Ty’s wish through their large collection of photographs. It was definitely the time of Ty’s young life.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Ty’s wish extra special:Perrysburg American Legion Post 28; Toledo American Legion Post 640; George Rill, VFW Post 606-Toledo; Ironworkers Local 55; Perrysburg Lions Club; The University of Toledo-Greek Community; Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association; Toledo-Fort Industry Lodge F. & AM. #144; Zoar Lutheran Church; Maumee Fraternal Order of Eagles #2562; Compassion Partners; WonderWorks; Pirates Dinner Adventure; The Royal Plaza Hotel; Crisper’s and Applebee’s Restaurant.
