Minerva boy gets wish granted

Minerva, Ohio – National charity Kids Wish Network and some local Minerva sponsors gave a 7-year-old boy a memorable experience he won’t soon forget.

In May of 2008 Cade was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a life-threatening condition that affects every muscle in the body. Cade is unable to walk long distances and must use braces at night. Despite his daily struggles, Cade’s mom, Amanda, said that her son is outgoing, happy and loves life.

When Amanda’s brother told her about Kids Wish Network, a charity that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, she decided she wanted to refer Cade. After filling out an application and speaking to a wish coordinator, Cade and his family were soon on their way to the Florida theme parks.

Kids Wish Network made arrangements for Cade, his mom and his step-dad to travel to Florida to visit the Magic Kingdom , Universal Studios and Sea World. Meals, accommodations at the luxurious Royal Plaza Hotel, theme park tickets, attractions and spending money were included in the wish.

While Cade will continue to battle his illness, he can now reflect on the time he spent in Florida and have happy memories to distract him from the scary ones.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Cade’s wish extra special: American Legion Post 548, Malvern American Legion Valley Post 375, Deputy Wes Elson, First Presbyterian Church, Minerva, Carrollton Rotary Club, Minerva Area Federal Credit Union, Cross of Malta VFW Post 6730, VFW Post 4120, Minerva, The Royal Plaza Hotel, Pirates Dinner Theatre, The California Pizza Kitchen, Wonderworks, Dollar Thrifty Automotive
