I had the great pleasure of recently interviewing one of our most recent wish kids, Tara. Her wish was just granted to travel to New York City, and Tara said that she had an amazing time.
Our very own Chief Operating Officer, Madeline, was Tara’s wish coordinator and she went above and beyond to make Tara’s Kids Wish Network wish experience extra special and included some awesome surprises for Tara.
Tara, who just turned 19, suffers from Lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. She endured rigorous therapy and lost her hair, but is one tough kid! She plans on going to medical school once she is able to get back into the full swing of things.
During her Kids Wish Network wish trip, she got to see all the sites of The Big Apple, attend “Mamma Mia!” on Broadway, enjoy a dinner cruise and even have a gondola ride around Central Park Lake. We had some awesome sponsors that helped make Tara’s dream a reality. You guys rock! We would not be able to do what we do without your generosity and kindness.
When a wish has been fulfilled, part of my job requires me to contact the family to do a press release. I don’t always have the opportunity to speak with the children (some are unable to talk, some are too shy, etc.) but I was lucky enough to ask Tara a few questions about her wish. She said that she was grateful for Kids Wish Network and all they did to create her wish and that she really enjoyed seeing “Mamma Mia!”. I was very glad to hear she had such a nice time!
Getting to talk to our wish kids is kind of like experiencing the wish with them. You get to hear the excitement in their voices and it’s almost like you are seeing it for the first time. I am so happy to hear that Tara had a great time and that her wish came true. That’s the best part about working at Kids Wish Network.
