I really enjoy making each sponsor I acquire feel special. After all, we couldn’t fund all the wishes without them!
Once they say yes and we receive their donation, our relationship with them doesn’t stop there; I make sure to hand-write a special thank you made just for them and we also send out a Humanitarian Award so that everyone can see how special they are! Oh, and it still keeps going! After the press release is written (with their name included as a special thanks), I make sure to send them a copy of the press release. I do this not only so they can see their name in “bright lights,” but also so they can read about the child’s wish. I think that this really makes it real for them. Not only do they get to read what a great time that child had on their wish, they get to know that they were a part of that!
Every once in a while, I get an organization or individual that says “call me any time you need help for a local child and we’ll help.” Those are the truly wonderful “Guardian Angels.” (Not that each and every person who helps isn’t AMAZING, mind you.) But, as a Wish Funding Specialist, you build a special relationship with certain people. I, for one, love talking to my American Legion/Amvets buddies in Missouri, my pals the Eagles in Ohio and my good friends at the Lions Club in Michigan.
It really is nice to have someone to rely on, someone you can call on any time you have a child in the area. They become your good friend and they make you smile. So, here’s to you, my one-of-a-kind sponsors! We couldn’t do it without you!

As a parent of a child who received a wish I also can’t say enough about the wonderful sponsors. Timmy’s wish was a truly magical time for us all and there is no way we could have been able to afford to make it happen on our own. If I live to be 100 I will still hear him laughing in delight as we soared through the October night sky on the back of Dumbo. To some it is just a donation. To us it is the memory of a lifetime.
