Kids Wish Network Grants NYC Wish Trip to Teen with Leukemia

SAN JOSE, Calif. – A young lady with a love for movies and musicals had a wish granted to see the sights of New York City thanks to Kids Wish Network and some local sponsors.

Tatiana is an 18-year-old who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – a cancer of the blood cells – in 2008. While receiving treatment at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, Tatiana’s social worker told the family about Kids Wish Network.

After submitting the application and being approved for a wish, Tatiana told her Kids Wish Network wish coordinator that her one wish was to go to New York City to see the sights.

“Since she was very little she has always watched the movies Eloise at the Plaza and also Balto. She wanted to see the Plaza and the statue of Balto in Central Park. She also loves musicals,” said Tatiana’s mother, Sara.

For her wish, Kids Wish Network made all the arrangements for Tatiana and her family. Round trip flights, a limo ride, attractions, various dinners, accommodations at the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel and spending money were included in the wish trip. Tatiana also got to see two Broadway shows: The Lion King and Mary Poppins.

“We went to see The Lion King and Mary Poppins. It was fabulous,” said Sara. “The costumes and music were just beautiful. We like going to musicals in town here, but haven’t got to go in such a long time because of Tatiana’s illness.”

Kids Wish Network arranged for Tatiana to go on a few tours of various landmarks and museums while in New York, including a VIP backstage tour of the NBC studios.

“It was just awesome. We got to see three sets and nobody was around,” Sara said.

Sara said that it was nice for her family to be together and not have to be at the hospital.

“Thank you. I don’t know how you do it. This was fabulous,” she said. “This was above and beyond. I was just amazed.”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Tatiana’s wish extra special: California Police Youth Charities, IBEW Local 332, The Roosevelt Hotel, Disney Theatrical Productions, OnBoard Tours, US Open Limousines, The NBC Experience, Ripley’s Times Square, Ruby Tuesday’s Times Square.
