A Hero for All

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Greenville (South Carolina) HERO OF THE MONTH was awarded to 18-year-old Stephanie. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, she has been admitted several times for multiple surgeries. She wears braces and utilizes a walker to get around. Not long ago, Stephanie’s family lost their home and all of its contents in a fire. (Thankfully, everyone survived!)

We recently received a heartwarming thank you letter from Stephanie and her mother.

“I’m sorry for the delay (in writing this letter), but shortly after receiving her HERO award, Stephanie was back in ICU for a week and had to have surgery. We can never thank you enough for helping her get back a bit of her life. This brought her so much joy at such a hard time. She was tickled pink to be nominated – and it was perfect because she loves to shop! She lost so many things in our house fire and one of the items was her digital camera. She purchased another one right away with her Wal-Mart gift card. She also bought some new bed linens and curtains. Stephanie plays on a “Challenger” baseball team, so she also got herself a new glove, helmet, ball and pitch back net to practice with!”

Stephanie – If you’re reading this, please know that you are in our thoughts (as are all of our brave HEROES!) and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!!
