Liberty Hollins, 4, of New Boston has a new playground in her backyard, thanks to the Kids Wish Network and Texarkana Home Depot.
Liberty suffers from cancer and her wish to have a play set in her yard was high on the list.
Kids Wish Network teamed with Home Depot to make this little girl’s wish come true, and this New Boston toddler was speechless when she saw it.
Ashlee Murphy, Liberty’s mother, surprised her daughter with the addition to the yard late on Wednesday and this girl was all smiles.
The play set was constructed over a two-day span on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week with Home Depot volunteers landscaping the play area to make it extra special and safe for Liberty.
Murphy said the play set will get plenty of use and it’s a wish her daughter had, one that has come true.
“I am so grateful and we are so appreciative of this. It’s amazing to see how much people care,” Murphy said.
Liberty could only smile when asked what she thought of her playground.
To qualify for a wish with Kids Wish Network, a child must be afflicted with a life-threatening condition or illness. Liberty was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2 when her doctors discovered a Retinoblastoma, which is a cancerous tumor in her left eye.
“The cancer was too severe to save her eye so unfortunately it had to be removed,” Murphy said. “But now Liberty is doing great and we’re going through follow-ups after months of chemotherapy. We are taking steps to prevent the cancer from spreading to her other eye.”
As of right now, Liberty is being closely monitored for a recurrence of the tumor. If it does occur, early detection will save Liberty’s right eye.
