Kadlec Regional Medical Center honored Dominic Ocham, center, wearing gray, as its first “Hero of the Month” on April 27. The program, part of the Kids Wish Network, was started by Kadlec Child Life Specialist Amber Lewis, who used to work at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, which also had the program, and wanted to bring it to Kadlec.
Heroes are chosen for their bravery while receiving medical treatment, and Lewis says Dominic never complained during all the shots and tests he endured in January when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Attendees enjoyed sugar free desserts before some video games and Dominic went home with some gifts, including a $400 gift card for Wal-Mart. He said he wasn’t sure what he wanted to buy yet.
