Hazzali came to the hospital in February for surgery to correct her scoliosis. Hazzali has another diagnosis which makes her diagnosis of scoliosis a little more complicated. She has Arnold chiari malformation. Hazzali had to have surgery to correct this malformation before she could have the scoliosis surgery. Both surgeries were very involved which required her recovering in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This most recent surgery was very involved and took many hours to complete. She had her spine straighten from her neck completely down to her lower back (T2-L2). Like I said, this was a very involved surgery which required blood transfusions and also required to have assistance from a breathing machine after while she recovered. Hazzali has had a hard time dealing with the pain especially when it comes to getting up out of bed. Hazzali has to work daily with the physical therapy. She doesn’t always want to get up and move but she always has a smile on her face and is ready to work hard to do what ever the doctors or nurses ask. She has been such a big trooper we are so happy that she is doing so well. We are all so proud of her and are excited to nominate her for the Hero of The Month program. Way to go!
