Eleven-year old Scott has a history of reactive airway disease and has been treated for his condition for approximately 5 years. In addition, he faces weight issues, making his breathing increasingly difficult. Scott has been attending martial arts classes four times a week which have had a positive impact on his overall well being; his self—esteem has soared and for the first time in years, his weight has stabilized. Scott’s parents are very dedicated to their son, ensuring that he attends all of his appointments and takes his respiratory treatments. They have encouraged him to eat better by changing the entire family’s eating habits. When Scott comes in for his appointments, he is more confident and proud and can’t wait to display his HERO certificate alongside his martial arts belt!
Even though he has been through so much, he always wants to give back, and has been a big help with the younger patients, taking on a “big brother” role in the playroom, encouraging them to talk, play and interact.
