Mikayla suffers from a condition known as cyclic neutropenia, a blood disorder that is characterized by a very low white blood cell count. People with this disease are highly susceptible to life-threatening bacterial infections. Mikayla’s particular condition is the rarest form of severe chronic neutropenia. At the slightest onset of a fever, she must be admitted immediately to the hospital and given intravenous antibiotics. In addition, Mikayla experiences difficulty with her mobility and is also unable to communicate verbally although she can communicate through gestures and signs.
This happy little girl says that one of her all-time favorite part of the day is when she gets to ride the super cool special needs bike at school. Mikayla couldn’t believe it when she got one of her very own for home!
