Benjamin and his mother entered the shelter after a recent violent incident in their home. Benjamin’s father kicked his mother so hard in the head, that the youngster actually heard the boot connect with her skull. To make matters worse, this 9-year-old also suffered an asthma attack on this particular night. Benjamin is receiving guidance from the staff during this transition period, as he blames himself for not assisting his mother during that vicious altercation. With her help and support – and the unconditional love from his dog – Ben is working to put the pieces of his life back together while acquiring steps to “safety planning” (getting to safe place and calling ‘911) in order to protect him and his mom.
