Facility: St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center
The whole time I had the privilege to work with Antonio, he has always had such a positive attitude despite the health problems he ha shad to deal with over the last few months. Antonio has Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a syndrome/disorder that occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks part of the nervous system. This leads to nerve inflammation that causes muscle weakness. In Antonio’s case, it has affected the muscles in his face, legs, arms and hands. At this point he is unable to walk and has to use a wheelchair. He also does require some assistance to perform daily tasks. However throughout all the medical treatments and rehab therapies that Antonio has endured he has remained positive, even while his conditioned got worse. He has been a great role model for his peers, even helping others out who were depressed about their hospital stay to become more positive.
