MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After years of suffering in patient silence, one young lady received a well-deserved getaway through the generosity of the local Montgomery Police Department and Kids Wish Network.
You see, when Jeffretta was 8-years-old, she was diagnosed with a very rare form of kidney disease called Focal Segmental Glomulersclerosis. This disease causes severe scarring of the filtering system within the kidneys. In Jeffretta’s case, both of her kidneys are affected and she will have to suffer through 6 months of dialysis before finally having to have a kidney transplant. Every day she has to take 12 different medications for her condition.
Now, at 16, Jeffretta is a quiet and self-contained young lady who keeps most of her suffering to herself. Knowing this about her daughter, Jeffretta’s mother, Musette, decided that her teenager deserved something in return for all of the pain she deals with so well; she went online to look for some organization that would help grant her daughter’s wish. She found Kids Wish Network and gave them a call.
It wasn’t long after the initial call that Jeffretta found herself talking to Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator, Jill, to whom she confided that she wished to visit Disneyland in California. With Jeffretta in mind, Jill set out to grant her wish.
With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Donna and the Montgomery Police Department, Jill arranged for Jeffretta and her family to spend some time in Anaheim and Hollywood, California. There, they would enjoy the comfort of staying in the Hilton Anaheim, thrill to the rides at Disneyland and Universal Studios, and have fun experiencing the magic of Hollywood while visiting Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and Madame Tussaud’s of Hollywood. Jill even planned out their meals for every evening in California!
“Jill did a great job of it,” said Musette. “We had a ball. Very seldom do we have a stress-free week and that’s what happened in California.”
Although Jeffretta and her family had a blast enjoying the theme parks and Jeffretta really liked having a hot tub in her hotel room, her favorite part of the whole trip was their visit to Madame Tussaud’s Hollywood wax museum.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jeffretta’s wish extra special: Montgomery Police Department, Hilton Anaheim, Disneyland Compassion Program, Universal Studios California, Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Camacho’s Cantina, Buca di Beppo, Madame Tussaud’s Hollywood, California Pizza Kitchen, Abercrombie & Fitch Corporate Office and rue21.
