AFTON, Mich. – A young boy suffering from a degenerative brain disease has his wish for a gaming laptop granted through national children’s charity, Kids Wish Network.
Just last year, Justin was diagnosed with having a group of degenerative brain diseases called Leukodystrophy. This condition has changed how Justin learns, acts and even how his body functions. Though it is usually treated with a bone marrow transplant, Justin’s doctors have determined that the disease is too far along for this type of treatment. In addition to having to take a variety of medications for this condition, Justin also has to endure regular CPAP treatments for sleep apnea, which occurs when he stops breathing at night.
Through family members, Justin’s mother, Theresa, learned about Kids Wish Network, an organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. She gave them a call and found out that her son qualified to have his wish granted.
Justin ended up telling Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator Jill all about his love of playing computer games; he told her that his wish was to have a special gaming laptop of his very own.
With the help of some local sponsors, Jill worked her “Guardian Angel” magic to procure Justin the laptop of his dreams, complete with internet access provided by WildBlue Communications, Inc.
“He was very happy with it,” said Theresa of her son’s new laptop. “He just loves it! He’s very, very excited…he wanted to take it to school.”
Justin and his mother picked up his laptop from Insite Technology, LLC. While he was there, the specialists made sure that the young boy went home with every bit of knowledge of his new very high tech machine as possible.
“They set it up for him while we were there,” said Theresa. “They showed him how to use it and told him about all of the features…it’s very high tech.”
In addition to the laptop, Jill sent Justin a box filled with surprises including computer games, plenty of toys, fun t-shirts, and even a special autographed racecar model from his favorite NASCAR driver, Kevin Harvick.
“He’s really excited about that. He [Kevin Harvick] is his favorite driver!”
Now that his wish has been granted, Justin has been playing with his computer every day when he returns home from school. According to Theresa, jumping on the computer after homework is his new routine. The laptop has even proven an extra help in keeping Justin occupied during his recent bout with migraines that kept him home from school.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Justin’s wish extra special: Insite Technology, LLC; WildBlue Communications, Inc.; Kevin Harvick, Inc.
