Facility: Alaska Native Medical Center
Jonathan is a 3 year old young boy that has been formally diagnosed with autism. Per Jonathan’s mom, Janis, he has been very well, and even has started a pre-school program. He has adjusted to his new routine of going to school, and has begun to share with his classmates- a huge behavioral feat. Jonathan and his younger brother, Daylon, are raised by Janis, who is doing everything as a single mother. Janis is unable to work due to her son’s diagnoses and the close care that he requires. Jonathan’s younger brother, Daylon, was recently hospitalized at the Alaska Native Medical Center twice in the month of January, for two separate weeks. Janis had to leave Jonathan twice in the care of an aunt during this time in order to be at Daylon’s bedside. Jonathan adjusted well, and considering his diagnosis, it was an amazing accomplishment. Jonathan’s mom is very proud of her son and is very thankful for what he has taught her: compassion and patience. Please accept our nomination for Jonathan for the Hero of the Month award, he deserves it.
