Facility: Backus Children’s Hospital
Donte is a 15 year old boy who has profound physical impairments due to complications from his extreme prematurity. He is visually impaired and is dependent for all his mobility. He has undergone multiple surgeries in the past – most recently spinal surgery to correct his scoliosis. It was a complex surgery and his recovery has been slow. He only recently has been cleared to begin therapy again. Donte came into therapy with his same good spirit and “tolerance” for what he must go through. His mother is an unbelievable advocate for him and includes him in all family activities, insisting that his high school do the same. It is quite an inspiration to see Donte roll into therapy in his wheelchair wearing his ROTC uniform! For all his hard work and effort, I am nominating Donte as “Hero of the Month”. Thank you for your consideration in choosing him.
