Benjamin is a 10-year-old boy who was admitted to Children’s Mercy Hospital with massive scalp avulsion injuries. Benjamin was playing outside after school with a neighbor’s dog when his father found him lying in the snow with massive injuries from a dog attack. Benjamin had lost the majority of his scalp, had multiple neck lacerations, bilateral ear avulsions as well as multiple trunk abrasions and bruises. He has had to endure multiple surgeries, dressing changes and invasive procedures as a result of these injuries. Through his hospital stay and multiple outpatient visits, Benjamin has always been kind and courteous to all medical staff during procedures, even though his pain has been great.
In addition, Benjamin has a history of a developmental delay from non accidental trauma at the age of 5 weeks. He is a true HERO in the eyes and hearts of the team at Children’s Mercy Hospital!
