LUMBERTON, Tex. - A little girl battling Leukemia was granted a wish for her very own pink playhouse thanks to national charity Kids Wish Network.
In February of 2008, Jolie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the blood. She initially completed six months of chemotherapy to combat the cancer and is currently completing an additional two years of chemo treatments.
Jolie’s mother, Melissa, said she received a phone call one day about Jolie possibly being qualified to have a wish granted.
“Someone called us from Kids Wish Network and told us Jolie had been referred for a wish,” said Melissa. “We were sent an application and filled it out.”
Jolie’s wish application was approved and Wish Coordinator Vanessa was assigned to handle Jolie’s playhouse wish.
“When I asked her what her wish was, she said she wanted a pink playhouse, but not one for her dolls, one for her,” Vanessa said. “It was too cute.”
With help from Wish Funding Specialist Doris and some special local sponsors, Vanessa began to make plans for Jolie to get her playhouse. She arranged for the playhouse to be shipped and assembled for Jolie and she found plenty of toys to go inside once it was finished. The toys included a dollhouse, tea set, toy box, kitchen play set, a cupcake stand with play cupcakes and a table with chairs. She also sent out a huge gift box full of Jolie’s favorite toys.
“Her favorite thing besides the playhouse is the dollhouse,” said Melissa.
Melissa said her daughter has wanted a playhouse for over 2 years now and when she told Jolie she could pick anything she wanted, the playhouse was first on her list.
“She has a very good imagination and a playhouse is perfect for that,” Melissa said. “She just jumped up and down when she found out she was getting it.”
According to Melissa, Jolie has been spending time in her new playhouse since it has been built.
“She and the dogs play in it. They’re itty bitty dogs and they all hang out in there together,” she said. “It’s somewhere she can go and be a kid and play and have her own little place to go and escape.”
Melissa said that the best part of seeing her daughter’s wish come true has been how happy it has made her.
“This has put a smile on her face and that is priceless. It’s amazing that there is somebody out there that does stuff for these children,” she said.
