Tyler is a nine-year old boy who was involved in a four-wheeler accident. As he was riding, debris – a metal ring – was thrown from under the four-wheeler and nearly amputated his foot. He sustained nerve, bone and skin damage. He spent two weeks in the hospital and has had to deal with weekly clinic visits for over a month since his discharge. He has had to undergo daily painful procedures, as care has been provided for the deep wound on his foot. He and his family have had to work diligently to avoid infections in his wound and at his pin sites. As a result, he has missed quite a bit of school and has had to balance staying caught up with caring for his foot, continued nerve regeneration and possible additional surgeries related to the fractures and wound. He works hard to help with his own care and cope with his injury during this extended period of recovery.
