Sarah was born with a neural tube defect called spina bifida that occurs when the spinal column fails to close completely, resulting in spinal cord nerve damage. The condition has left Sarah confined to a wheelchair. In addition, she has hydrocephalus, which causes fluid to build up around her brain. She has had two shunt procedures to drain the excess fluid, in addition to more than a dozen other surgeries. Sarah also suffers from chiari malformation, a neurological condition that causes compression of the spinal cord and brainstem at the base of the skull.
Sarah is a major fan of the Backstreet Boys! Meeting the band in person was truly a dream come true for this special girl. During her time in L.A., Sarah not only got to watch the guys rehearse, she also met them each personally. It was definitely a day Sarah will remember forever!
