In March of 2007, seven-year-old Samantha of San Antonio was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. ALL occurs when there are too many underdeveloped infection-fighting white blood cells, called lymphocytes, found in a child’s blood and bone marrow. Since her cancer diagnosis, Samantha has undergone aggressive chemotherapy treatments. She has been in and out of the hospital frequently over the last year but has endured her treatments bravely.
On the day of her shopping spree, Samantha was picked up in a sleek limousine and presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Upon her arrival at Wal-Mart, the staff there greeted her with a Shrek themed cake and balloons! They also gave her a gift basket and later treated her to a tasty lunch at the McDonald’s in the store. At Toys “R” Us, Samantha was presented with a huge basket packed full of goodies for her to take home along with all of her other purchases.
After an exhilarating afternoon of shopping, Samantha climbed exhausted, back into the limousine. In addition to all kinds of toys and games, Samantha took home a Wii and a brand new computer…definitely not a bad way to spend the day!
