One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is recruiting new facilities to join our HERO OF THE MONTH Program. Sure, it can be a bit disappointing and frustrating when I contact facilities that (a.) don’t return my emails/phone calls, or (b.) dismiss the program without knowing the details, but I thoroughly enjoy speaking to those who are eager to hear/learn about our efforts & mission. “Joining forces” to honor the courageous children that pass through their doors each month is such a win/win situation for both organizations, resulting in happy children and families.
In the past few months, we’ve begun reaching out to facilities beyond children’s hospitals, such as homeless coalitions, domestic violence shelters, rehabilitation centers and other institutions that focus on helping and bettering the lives of children ages 3-18. We encourage them to ask lots of questions; many are out of concern for their clients, especially those dealing with highly sensitive circumstances.
As of January, I added five new facilities to our esteemed roster, which means we have the honor of recognizing more deserving HEROS than ever. WELCOME… YWCA of San Diego, YWCA of West Central Michigan, Baptist St. Anthony’s Health Care, SafeHouse Denver, and Kids House of Seminole! Though our program plays a minuscule part in the “healing process” for these brave children, we are nonetheless, very proud to form an alliance with these organizations. We look forward to working with you!
