Jody had a stroke when he was born; at six months old he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and to maintain balance and posture. Jody must wear special shoes and he uses a walker for moving short distances and relies on a wheelchair for longer distances. Jody is developmentally delayed and the right side of his body is also affected.
When a limousine showed up to transport Jody and his family to pick up his computer, everyone knew that it was going to be a very special day for Jody. Once at the computer store, Jody was given the VIP treatment and shown how to use his new computer by the staff; later on, they even sent someone to his house to help Jody’s family hook up the new machine and all of its accessories!
When it came to burning his first CD, something that he had been intrigued by for some time, he was simply ecstatic. “He’s had several people burn him CDs,” said his mom, and “he gets real excited” by the idea of burning CDs. She had to sit down and explain to him that he wouldn’t be seeing any fire or flames when it happened, but Jody was still thrilled, especially when he was handed his very first burnt CD.
After receiving his brand new computer, Jody and his family were driven to a restaurant where they were treated to an awesome dinner. Jody even got free internet service for a whole year!
