Jada was born with sickle cell disease, a disease in which the red blood cells created in the bone marrow have a difficult time passing through the blood vessels to reach the body’s tissues. Those suffering with this disease experience severe episodes of pain and eventual organ damage; they are also at high risk for stroke and cardiac arrest. Jada has been in and out of the hospital for a good portion of her young life. She also suffers frequent pain crises and is on a daily medication regimen to boost her immune system.
According to Jada’s mom, Jada was “so overwhelmed” when she finally got to Orlando; there were so many things to enjoy that she hardly knew where to begin! She and her family visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot Center as well as Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and even SeaWorld! For Jada, the best part was definitely watching Shamu perform at SeaWorld. “She just loved the shows,” said Jada’s mom. “It was a big experience for everyone…we were all really impressed.” Jada’s mom said that her daughter truly enjoyed herself on the trip and says that Jada “hopes that the next kid has as much fun” as she did.
