Eleven-year-old Ta’Kiyah is a nurturing soul, a very sweet girl who loves helping to care for her baby sister. Doing well in her history class, she loves that she got to witness history taking place while watching President Obama’s inauguration; she particularly liked watching him walking in the inaugural parade. Ta’Kiyah roots for the LA Lakers, and enjoys jumping rope and stepping. She’s a soft-spoken, loving girl who touches everyone with whom she comes into contact.
Several months ago, Ta’Kiyah began to complain of headaches. After undergoing extensive testing, doctors discovered a cancerous tumor on her brain. She spent over six months in the hospital, where she underwent chemotherapy that made her very ill and caused her to miss most of her school year. Throughout her hospitalization, this special young girl remained true to her optimistic, caring spirit.
What Ta’Kiyah wants more than anything is to meet President Barack Obama. When asked why, she replied that she would like to meet the first African-American president. Well, Ta’Kiyah, get ready to meet a historical figure in person because you’re going to the White House!
