I Want to Rock Out with Hannah Montana!

Name: Daymon
Age: 10
State: Illinois

Daymon

Daymon cannot get enough of Miley Cyrus and her alter ego, Hannah Montana! Not only does he love to watch the TV show, he also listens to Miley’s music and could probably play some of it by ear. A talented musician in his own right, Daymon started playing guitar at the age of three and now has a penchant for drums and keyboards as well! His talents also extend to playing basketball and spelling, his favorite subject in school. When he’s not practicing his music and when Hannah Montana is not on television, Daymon likes to play on his Nintendo DS system, skating along with Tony Hawk in the video game. His favorite color is blue.

By the age of seven months, Daymon had already undergone three surgeries for a condition called spina bifida. Children born with spina bifida have neural folds in their spines that fail to close, leaving their spinal cords open. This causes different degrees of paralysis, ambulatory problems, loss of sensation and deformation of the hips, knees and feet. He also has hydrocephalus, which is a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull. To relieve pressure from the fluid buildup, doctors placed a shunt in Daymon’s skull. He has had ten surgeries on his feet and had a rod placed in his back. He cannot walk or feel his feet, and relies on a wheelchair for movement. When Daymon turns twelve, he has to have surgery to remove the rod in his back and put in a more permanent device. He may also have to have surgery on his hip, which is turned inward due to his scoliosis, a condition that has curved his spine.

This wonderfully talented young musician knew exactly what he wanted when he was asked for his number one wish: nothing would give him greater pleasure than meeting his favorite singer and actress, Hannah Montana star, Miley Cyrus!
