Bryson’s Shopping Dream Comes True

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A little boy with a rare form of cancer gets the shopping spree of his dreams with a little help from Kids Wish Network and some local sponsors.

In July of 2009, Bryson was the first child in the world to be diagnosed with a cancerous pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. Three tumors have been surgically removed from the little boy and 12 other tumors have been discovered on his liver. The cancer has also spread to Bryson’s bloodstream.

Right after Bryson’s diagnosis, a professional fundraiser for Kids Wish Network called Bryson’s mother and asked if she knew of a child battling a life-threatening illness who would benefit from having a wish granted. She told the caller about her son. Once referred, it wasn’t long before Bryson was telling Wish Coordinator Vanessa all about his wish to enjoy his very own shopping spree.

With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Megan and some terrific local sponsors, Vanessa set to work organizing Bryson’s shopping wish that included time at his favorite comic book store, Rockin Rooster, Best Buy and Meijer.

“He had such a good time,” said Bryson’s mother, Marie. “Vanessa did a good job setting it all up. It was such a neat experience!”

In addition to plenty of shopping time, Bryson was taken to and from each store in a limousine, just like a celebrity. This was an extra fantastic bonus for the little boy who took to the limo like a duck takes to water. According to Marie, as soon as Bryson was in the limo, he warned her that he could get too used to treatment like that.

Once at Rockin Rooster, where his shopping adventure began, Bryson stocked up on all the comic goodies that he could handle, including collectible cards and figurines.

Following his trip to the comic book store, Bryson enjoyed his stops at Meijer and Best Buy where he picked out a brand new laptop, iPod and other accessories.

“It was so great,” said Marie of her son’s wish. “He’s been having a real blast” since his spree, and that’s just what his Wish Coordinator and sponsors intended for the special little boy.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Bryson’s wish extra special: Bakers Union Local 253, Communication Workers of America Local 4401, InfoTrust, LLC, VFW Post 3627, Rockin Rooster, Jimmy’s Limousine Service, Meijer and Best Buy.
