MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Kids Wish Network sends 10-year-old Christopher on the wish of his life to meet his favorite country music star.
At the age of two, Christopher was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which is a group of spastic neural disorders that severely effect the body’s movement and posture. This little boy was also found to have very low muscle tone, which is condition called hypotonia. Because of these disorders, Christopher has limited use of his left side and has much difficulty when walking. He uses either a walker, leg braces or a wheelchair for long distance movements and must endure various speech and physical therapies. In addition, Christopher has suffered through one surgery and may undergo yet another to implant a pump that would deliver antispasmodic medicine continually into his spinal fluid.
It was through Christopher’s grandmother that his mother first learned about Kids Wish Network and their goal of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Once he was referred, it wasn’t long before he was telling Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, all about his love of country music, especially the music of singer Alan Jackson.
With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Donna and some outstanding sponsors, Vanessa organized a trip of a lifetime for Christopher that included tickets to the Foothills Fall Festival where Alan Jackson would be performing, dinner, a hotel stay and, of course, a meet-and-greet with Alan Jackson!
“It was great,” said Christopher’s mother, Tammy. “He [Christopher] just loved it.”
Right before the concert, Christopher and his family got to meet with Alan Jackson backstage. It was quite an experience for the young country fan, and was definitely something that he will never forget.
In addition to setting up Chris’ wish, Vanessa also put together and sent the little boy a gift box loaded with toys, games and gifts to show him just how special he is. Of all the things that filled the box, Christopher most enjoyed some cowboy hats and a bag in the shape of a guitar.
According to Tammy, Chris’s Wish Coordinator “did a wonderful job [with everything]…it was great!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Christopher’s wish extra special: Alan Jackson, McKenzie Rotary, M. Gibson Hotels, Roadhouse Steakhouse, B.R. Supply Company, Hamilton Ryker Company, National Federation of Independent Businesses, City of McKenzie and the McKenzie Lions Club.
