DELTONA, Fla. – A little boy with a life-threatening illness gets the wish of his life when he visits Hollywood with a little help from Kids Wish Network.
Some signs speak louder than others; the sign in the doctor’s office spoke volumes to Jan. It advertised Kids Wish Network, a charity which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Here was the chance to finally give something special to her son Zach, who has suffered so much in his short 11 years.
In 2005, Zach was diagnosed with epilepsy. This is a neurological disorder that causes this little boy to suffer frequent unprovoked seizures. He is on a strict daily medication regimen for his condition and undergoes frequent EEG testing to monitor his seizure activity.
To Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator Jill, Zach entrusted his only wish: to visit Hollywood. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Megan and some special sponsors, Jill made sure that Zach would have the time of his life in California.
“Jill really outdid herself,” said Jan, Zach’s mother. “I can’t begin to tell you how well she did. I simply cannot tell you how much fun we all had.”
The things that Jill organized for Zach and his family to enjoy included a few hours at Perfect Day Surf Camp, a trip to the Magic Castle for some magic shows, a guided tour of the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, a day at Universal Studios, two tours around Tinseltown as well as much, much more! She even arranged for their dinners!
“We did a lot but it didn’t seem cramped at all,” said Jan of everything Jill had planned for Zach and everyone to enjoy.
Of everything that he experienced, Zach had the most fun during his private surfing lesson.
“Zach just adored the surfing. He just had such a good time…he didn’t want to stop! I’ve never heard him laugh so much!”
During the tours of Hollywood, Zach, his brother Kevin and his parents had a blast learning all the tidbits of information and Zach especially enjoyed viewing Orlando Bloom’s house.
The whole family had an awesome time on the Santa Monica Pier, and the trip to The Magic Castle was nothing short of amazing. According to Jan, “The shows were great there, we felt really special. It was fantastic!”
Everything was absolutely perfect for Zach’s wish trip.
“I can’t even put into words how great the whole trip was,” said Jan. “It was the perfect ending to their [Zach and Kevin’s] summer…he couldn’t wait for school to start to wear his shirts and tell everybody all about it! He had been feeling a little blue before all this started and I asked him at the end, ‘Do you feel special now?’ He said, ‘Oh yeah!’…Everyone treated him like a celebrity! It was just so exciting for him, for all of us. I simply can’t thank you [at Kids Wish Network] enough.”
