SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – 15-year-old Amanda’s wish came true when she visited Disney World in Florida.
In 2008, Amanda was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a highly malignant and fast-growing cancer that started in Amanda’s left hand and spread to her pancreas and liver. She has suffered through both chemotherapy and radiation treatments to shrink the cancer and has had to have a port placed in her body to receive these treatments.
When a case worker at the hospital where Amanda was being treated mentioned children’s charity Kids Wish Network and the wishes they grant, Amanda’s mother, Stefanie, decided to give them a call.
Once in touch with Kids Wish Network, it wasn’t long before Amanda was telling Wish Coordinator Vanessa all about her dream to visit Disney World. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Doris and some fantastic sponsors, Vanessa arranged for Amanda to visit all of the theme parks she wanted; she even planned a day by day itinerary complete with dinners at the Garden Grove Restaurant, The Sizzler and the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater!
“Vanessa did a good job,” said Stefanie of their itinerary. She especially loved the room at the famous Royal Plaza Hotel.
Amanda spent a few days enjoying the sights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom with her family, and, though she had fun, her favorite part of the whole trip turned out to be the Pirates Adventure Dinner Theater. There, she was treated like the VIP she knows she is and was even a part of the show!
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Amanda’s wish extra special: Mary E. Boehme, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 271, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 750, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 35, San Antonio Police Officers Association, The Alamos Kiwanis Club, Compassion Partners, Royal Plaza Hotel, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Garden Grove Restaurant, The Sizzler and WonderWorks.
