BEEVILLE, Texas – A teenager with a life-threatening illness travels to Florida for a few days of adventure with a little help from Kids Wish Network.
When doctors told Cora that her daughter’s condition was becoming more serious, Cora decided that perhaps it was time to think about contacting a wish organization that might be able to grant her daughter’s wish.
At 3-months-old, Cora’s daughter Evelyn was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after suffering a brain aneurysm. Cerebral palsy refers to a group of neurological disorders that permanently affect body movement, brain function and muscle coordination. It is caused by abnormalities in the parts of the brain that control the muscles. For this condition, Evelyn has endured multiple brain and limb surgeries and must suffer through more in the future. She also has a seizure disorder that is somewhat controlled by various medicines.
A quick search on the internet provided Cora with the information to contact national children’s charity Kids Wish Network, which is just what she did.
It wasn’t long after her initial call that Cora found herself working with a Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator named Jill who set out to grant Evelyn’s wish of visiting all of the great theme parks in Florida.
In addition to arranging trips to the major theme parks for Evelyn and her family, Jill also organized an itinerary full of dinners and other attractions for everyone to enjoy.
“Evelyn really had fun,” said Cora. “Everything went really well. We had a real blast.”
While visiting the “sunshine state,” Evelyn and her family made trips to Universal Studios, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom.
Everywhere she went Evelyn met up with her favorite cartoon characters and even danced with Goofy!
“I think she met everybody she wanted to,” said Cora. “She was so excited she was practically jumping out of her skin. It was just fun watching her have fun!”
Though the wish trip was an exhausting three days, when it came time to leave, Evelyn simply didn’t want to, despite her sore feet.
Now that she’s back home, Evelyn’s been delighting in taking something from her trip to school with her every day. So far, this has included her autograph book that’s been filled with the autographs of her favorite characters and her Magic Kingdom shirt. She can’t wait for her mom to have the pictures developed.
“I’m so glad you all [at Kids Wish Network] were able to do this for her,” said Cora. It has been wonderful. Thank you.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Evelyn’s wish extra special: Compassion Partners, Royal Plaza Hotel, Crowne Plaza Hotel – San Antonio Airport, Thrifty/Dollar Rent A Car, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Joe’s Crab Shack, NYPD Pizzeria and WonderWorks.
