ELKHART, Ind. – Kids Wish Network turned a young boy’s fondest dream into a reality when they sent him to Disney World.
At the age of two, Zach was diagnosed with ataxia telangiectasia, which is a rare neurodegenerative disease that affects many parts of the body and causes severe disability. Zach is confined to a motorized wheelchair for moving long distances and must use a special walker for short distances at home. He is having trouble with the muscles in his eyes, he is easily fatigued and has experienced difficulties with his immune system.
It was Zach’s school principal who referred him to Kids Wish Network and it wasn’t long before Zach made his one wish known to Wish Coordinator, Vanessa: to visit Walt Disney World in Florida.
Along with the assistance of Wish Funding Specialist, Doris, and some outstanding sponsors, Vanessa worked her magic and set up an awesome family getaway for Zach and his family. This fabulous vacation included a stay at The Royal Plaza Hotel, dinner at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater and, of course, tickets to the Walt Disney World Resort and all of the other major Orlando theme parks!
Once in Orlando, Zachary and his family enjoyed a real action-packed vacation; their itinerary was booked with fantastic activities and awesome places to visit. Even their dinners were planned out!
“It was fabulous,” said Zach’s mom, Brigid. “Everybody was so nice to us. Vanessa did a great job.”
Zach got to feed and pet dolphins at Sea World, meet all of his favorite characters at the Magic Kingdom and ride down a turbulent river while on safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Out of everything he got to experience, Zach’s favorite was riding the Big Thunder Mountain rollercoaster.
“He absolutely loved it,” said Brigid of her son’s wish trip to Florida. “He’s been talking about it nonstop and showing off his souvenirs…thank you guys [at Kids Wish Network] so much for everything. It was wonderful.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Zachary’s wish extra special: Goshen Moose Lodge Family Center #836, Goshen Elks Lodge #798, Firefighters Local Union 338, Compassion Partners, Royal Plaza Hotel, Pirates Dinner Adventure, WonderWorks, Romano’s Macaroni Grill and Uno Chicago Bar & Grill.
