Local Boy’s Only Wish is Granted with Help from Microsoft and Kids Wish Network

DECATUR, Ga. – A little boy battling a life-threatening illness has his fondest wish granted with a little help from children’s charity Kids Wish Network and Microsoft.

From the moment he was born, Jacobi has suffered from an inherited blood disorder called Sickle Cell Anemia. Those suffering with this disease experience severe episodes of pain and eventual organ damage; they are also at high risk for stroke and cardiac arrest. Jacobi has also developed a severe case of asthma and must follow a strict daily medication regimen for both conditions, which is sometimes quite stifling for an active 8-year-old.

Through a friend of the family’s who donated to national children’s charity Kids Wish Network, Jacobi’s name was mentioned for a possible wish because of the nature of his illness. It wasn’t long before Jacobi’s mom, Staci, was surprised by a call from wish coordinator Vanessa, who asked her little boy what he wanted for his one wish.

After telling Vanessa all about himself and what he liked, Jacobi went through a few mind-changes and finally decided that he wanted an Xbox 360 game system for his very own. With some amazing help from Bruce Hoffman and Microsoft, the company behind the Xbox, Jacobi’s wish came true just this past weekend.

When Jacobi opened the box from Microsoft and discovered his brand new Xbox 360, he was ecstatic.

“He was so excited, he called Vanessa right when he got it to thank her,” said Staci.

Then, right after hanging up with his wish coordinator, another box was delivered. This one came from Kids Wish Network’s headquarters in Florida and was full of toys, gifts and Xbox games for Jacobi to enjoy, all tailored to his personality and favorite things.

According to Staci, Jacobi “was having a fit! He was even more excited…it was like Christmas! He has been playing with it all weekend!”

Besides games to accompany his new game system, Vanessa included board games like Monopoly and plenty of toy cars and other great items in the box for Jacobi.

“She [Vanessa] really listened to him,” said Staci. “When he said he liked cars, she remembered that. It was like she channeled him. I mean, there were hundreds of cars in the box…and the Monopoly…he has a kids version of it and had been wanting to ‘move up’ [to the regular version of the game]…he asked, ‘How did she know I wanted this?’ He was so excited.”

Since he’s gotten his Xbox and gift box, Jacobi has hardly left his room and has even cleaned out his closet to make room for all of his new goodies. He’s also called all his friends and family members and invited everyone over for extended play dates on the coming weekend.

“Now our house is the place to be,” said Staci with a smile. “You all [at Kids Wish Network] didn’t have to do this…thank you. We’re still excited.”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jacobi’s wish extra special: Microsoft and Bruce Hoffman.
