Kids Wish Network grants local child’s Disney Wish

CHARLOTTE, MI -Like so many other children, 16 year old Andrew loves listening to music, watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating cheese pizza! However this young man faces challenges that other teens couldn’t even imagine. You see, at just 8 months of age, Andrew suffered a closed head injury resulting in epilepsy.

Recently, this special boy’s one wish to visit Disney World came true thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Andrew’s life changed forever due to the traumatic brain injury that he experienced as an infant. He suffers from epileptic seizures and is developmentally delayed. Cognitively, he tests at the level of a 7 year old child. The seizures strike suddenly and can be quite severe. The medication Andrew must take puts him at a high risk for serious infections.

Andrew’s aunt, Annette Kissel, suggested that Andrew’s mom, Robin, call Kids Wish Network to see if Andrew would qualify for a wish. She completed the application process and Andrew’s doctor verified the medical information. Then it was time for Andrew to choose his wish!

Vanessa, a wish coordinator with Kids Wish Network called and asked Andrew what his one wish was. Andrew didn’t hesitate; he wanted to go to Disney World!! Vanessa quickly got to work and booked airline tickets, luxury accommodations, a car rental, meals and of course Disney World! Not only that, she also made sure that they were able to visit other Central Florida theme parks such as Animal Kingdom and Universal Studios.

Andrew said that his favorite rides “were all the ones that were really scary, I just screamed” he exclaimed! His mom, Robin, said that they all loved the night parade and fireworks at Disneyworld and that the whole trip was unbelievable. Another highlight was the Pirates Dinner Adventure Show which Kids Wish Network regularly books as the grand finale to the trip. Robin said it was one of her best memories. “We all got involved in the show”, she laughed, and “we got to be pirates!”

“It was unbelievable, it was just great” Robin said. “Our wish coordinator Vanessa was great.” Kids Wish Network asked Andrew to have his mom send some pictures of his great adventure. He warily replied, “But I want to show them to my class!” That’s ok, Andrew, Kids Wish Network can wait!
