PEORIA, Ill. – A young lady battling a life-threatening illness enjoys the vacation of a lifetime with Kids Wish Network.
Sometimes, your family can truly outdo themselves to give you something special; in the case of twelve-year-old Jada, this is definitely the case.
Jada was born with sickle cell disease, a disease in which the red blood cells created in the bone marrow have a difficult time passing through the blood vessels to reach the body’s tissues. Those suffering with this disease experience severe episodes of pain and eventual organ damage; they are also at high risk for stroke and cardiac arrest. Jada has been in and out of the hospital for a good portion of her young life. She also suffers frequent pain crises and is on a daily medication regimen to boost her immune system.
When Jada’s grandmother heard about children’s charity, Kids Wish Network, she knew that they would be the ones who would be able to give her precious granddaughter something truly special in return for all of her pain and suffering.
After talking with Jada for a bit, Wish Coordinator, Jill, set to work with her special brand of “Guardian Angel” magic to grant Jada’s wish of visiting Walt Disney World in sunny Florida. Once she got started, Jill just couldn’t stop at a trip to Disney World, so she included tickets to all of the other major Orlando theme parks, tickets to WonderWorks and even a dinner at the awesome Pirates Dinner Adventure!
According to Jada’s mom, Alisha, Jada was “so overwhelmed” when they finally got to Orlando; there were so many things to enjoy that she hardly knew where to begin! She and her family visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot Center as well as Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and even SeaWorld! For Jada, the best part was definitely watching Shamu perform at SeaWorld. “She just loved the shows,” said Alisha.
“It was a big experience for everyone…we were all really impressed.” Alisha said that her daughter truly enjoyed herself on the trip and says that Jada “hopes that the next kid has as much fun” as she did. Everything, including working with Jill and Kids Wish Network was “quite an experience” for her; everything was a real blast.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jada’s wish extra special: Carrabba’s Italian Restaurant, Country Inn & Suites, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, WonderWorks, Compassion Partners and Mimi’s Cafe.
