MUSKEGON, Mich.- A teenager with a life-threatening illness has the wish of his life with Kids Wish Network.
Eighteen-year-old Cody is a very brave and endearing young man. He’s a wonderful student with a great outlook and a very caring personality, though he’s a bit on the shy side. Cody is the type of young man who would do anything for his family and friends. He’s a hard worker and loves music; he was even in his high school’s marching band!
In April, Cody was diagnosed with cancer. After enduring surgery to remove some of the cancerous tissue, the disease spread to his lymph nodes. Since then, he has endured three rigorous months of chemotherapy treatments to shrink the cancer, which left him completely drained and without hair. Throughout everything, Cody maintained an upbeat attitude and kept his chin high.
After being referred to Kids Wish Network through a friend of the family’s, Cody made his one wish known to Wish Coordinator, Vanessa: to visit Walt Disney World in Florida. Along with the assistance of Wish Funding Specialist, Doris, and some outstanding sponsors, Vanessa worked her magic and organized an awesome family getaway for Cody and his family. This fabulous vacation included a stay and the famous Royal Plaza Hotel, dinner at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater and, of course, tickets to the Walt Disney World Resort and all of the other major Orlando theme parks!
Once in Orlando, Cody and his family enjoyed a real action-packed time; their itinerary was booked with many wonderful activities to experience and places to visit. Everything was “amazing,” said Cody. “It was a lot of fun!” He visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom with his family. They rode plenty of rides, were thrilled with the shows and were in awe of the fireworks; according to Cody, his favorite experiences were definitely the “amazing” fireworks displays and fantastical parades. The night of the Pirates dinner was also a special treat; Cody and his mother and girlfriend were even a part of the show!
“I would go back if I could,” said Cody. “I would like to say to [Wish Coordinator] Vanessa and the people at Kids Wish, thank you very much for this opportunity. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you.” His memories will last for years to come, and that’s exactly what Vanessa and the rest the people at Kids Wish Network wanted for him.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Cody’s wish extra special: Bob Evans Restaurants, Fraternal Order of Eagles #3666, Pratt & Whitney Component, Structural Concepts Corporation, VFW Post 446, Compassion Partners, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Dollar Rent-A-Car, Royal Plaza Hotel, WonderWorks, Uno Chicago Bar & Grill and The Sizzler.
