ELBURN, Ill. – A little boy diagnosed with a life-threatening illness has his fondest wish granted through Kids Wish Network.
When Caden’s aunt began donating to Kids Wish Network, she hadn’t the faintest idea that she would help her own nephew have his wish granted. It was during a phone call with a professional fundraiser from the children’s charity that the caller asked her if she knew of any child who might benefit from having a wish granted. After a second of thought, she told the fundraiser of her nephew, Caden, and his struggle with a life-threatening illness.
At fifteen months old, Caden was diagnosed with a chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. This is a rare disorder that is caused by several different nerve and muscle abnormalities in the digestive system. In some cases, the pain caused by this disorder’s symptoms is so severe that the patient can and will not eat. In this case, the child will have to get nutritional sustenance via some other way. For Caden, having this disorder has meant four intestinal surgeries, constant intestinal problems and he has to be fed via G-tube.
After the initial call, it wasn’t long before Caden was entrusting his wish of having his very own swimming pool to Wish Coordinator, Vanessa. With the assistance of Wish Funding Specialist Donna and some fantastic local sponsors, Caden’s wish began on its journey to become reality.
Over the weekend, in a span of two days, Caden’s brand new above ground swimming pool was set up, filled with water and ready to be enjoyed.
“He is so excited to have the pool,” said Caden’s father of his son’s wish. “He even went into the pool right after it was filled, even though the water was only 66 degrees! It only lasted for a few minutes though” before Caden got back out. “Now all we need is the Chicago weather to warm back up and he will be in nonstop!”
While waiting on a warmer climate, Caden and his siblings are planning out what sorts of toys they want to get to enjoy in the pool. For Caden, it’s a real wish-come-true! Said Jim of Caden’s growing anticipation of better swimming weather, “When it’s nice, it’s going to be tough to keep him out of it!”
