Clare, Mich. – A sweet little girl diagnosed with cancer enjoys the trip of her life to Disney World, thanks to her friends at Kids Wish Network.
Sometimes, your friends and family truly outdo themselves to give you something special; in the case of four-year-old Olivia, this is more than true.
At the age of three, Olivia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This is a rapidly progressive cancer of the bone cells in which underdeveloped white blood cells flood the bone marrow and crowd out all of the normal cells. These malignant cells then spread to other organs, causing much damage to the body. In order to shrink the affected cancerous areas in her body, Olivia must endure chemotherapy once a month, which is tough for an adult, let alone a four year old. She is also on a daily medication regimen to regulate her condition.
When a Kids Wish Network representative called Olivia’s mother, Teri, saying that her brother’s fiancée, Natasha, had referred her little princess for a wish, Teri knew that Natasha was right; Olivia deserved something that was just for her, something truly special and she knew Kids Wish Network could make it happen.
After talking with the little girl, Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, set to work with her special brand of “Guardian Angel” magic to grant Olivia’s wish of visiting Walt Disney World in Florida. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist, Megan, and some outstanding sponsors, Vanessa granted Olivia not only tickets to the Walt Disney World resort, but a dinner at the luxurious Fulton’s Crab House, a trip to WonderWorks, a high-seas adventure at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater and even lodgings at the famous Royal Plaza Hotel!
It all started with a plane ride; something Olivia had never done before. During the landing process, the plane’s roller-coaster-like movements prompted the four-year-old to throw her hands up in the air and squeal with delight. After a minute or two of this, Olivia stopped, turned to her father and, with a serious air that only a child can don, asked, “Dad, is this supposed to be fun or scary?” Her father, Tony, replied that it was a fun sort of turbulence and Olivia nodded. “Ok,” she said, and resumed enjoying the plane’s descent.
Once on the ground in Orlando, Olivia was thrilled. According to her father, Olivia is not one to get over excited about things but in Florida, she was excited the whole time. “She liked the idea of us being there [Florida] for her. She was excited the whole time!” Olivia and her family visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom again, much to Olivia’s glee. It was there that the little princess met her favorite famous princesses and became enchanted with Disney’s live stage shows. Her parents even took her to visit the Bibbdi Bobbidi Boutique, where she was pampered like the princess she knows she is. For Olivia, the fun didn’t end.
Even the dinners were magical for the little girl and her family! At Fulton’s Crab House in Downtown Disney, Olivia was greeted as though she were a celebrity and even had her very own private table complete with pink tablecloth, glitter and Little Mermaid gift basket! The waiter even regaled Princess Olivia with magic tricks the entire evening and to top it off, the food was awe-inspiringly fantastic.
According to Olivia’s father, thanks to Vanessa, the sponsors and Kids Wish Network, “everything went smoothly.” His little girl had the time of her life and, “The whole thing was just awesome…perfect for her.” Olivia’s mom, Teri, said, “We will always cherish the memories from this experience!”
