Lakewood, OH – A little girl with rare disease visits Walt Disney World with Kids Wish Network.
Just last year, Danielle was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease. This is an extremely rare progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain. The first symptom is a stroke, which Danielle had in February. Danielle has undergone revascular surgery on both sides of her brain in order to try and restore oxygen flow to those areas. In addition, she has a blood clotting disorder and had to suffer three long months of shots to her stomach to overcome the clotting. Danielle also has Down syndrome and is diabetic; she is on a daily regimen of anti-seizure medications, cannot endure much physical activity and has a very low immune system.
When a family friend referred little Danielle to Kids Wish Network for a wish, it wasn’t long before a Kids Wish Network representative was calling Danielle’s home, asking what she wished for more than anything else in the world. Of course, an answer came quickly: she wanted to visit Disney World in Florida to meet all of the princesses.
It was truly a magical time for little Danielle. She had the chance to meet all of her favorite fairies, princesses and characters at the Disney parks, as well as her favorites at Universal Studios. In fact, there she got to meet Shrek and Donkey, who said, “I LOVE Danielle,” much to the girl’s delight. In attendance at the Barney show, Danielle got to sit in the front row and bop along to all of her favorite Barney hits!
An avid collector of magic wands, Danielle picked out many to take home with her. According to her mother, “she definitely added to her collection while she was there.” She got plenty besides the wands, including Disney dolls. Once home, “she went to her room and lined up her dolls and was calling them the names of kids in her class, taking inventory to make sure all her stuff is there.”
It was a beautiful getaway for a little girl who has dealt with so much and has a long way to go still. Danielle now faces every day with fantastic memories to light her path on the roads she must take.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Danielle’s wish extra special: Ms. Carla Cavanaugh, Junior Womens Club of Lakewood, Bob Evans of Brook Park, Royal Plaza Hotel, Compassion Partners, Pirates Dinner Adventure, WonderWorks and California Pizza Kitchen.
