Watertown, SD – A little girl with epilepsy travels to Florida for a few days of adventure with a little help from Kids Wish Network.
Everyone was excited and exhilarated as they exited the ride, but none were quite as happy as Haley. “Let’s go on it again!” she exclaimed, almost bouncing with delight. It was truly the time of her life.
At five years old, Haley was diagnosed with epilepsy, a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. Little Haley’s body is racked with seizures daily. She has been to many different doctors and hospitals; she has been placed on many different anti-seizure medications to help, but nothing seems to work. Just recently, Haley has endured surgery to place a vagal nerve stimulator in her chest to help monitor and prevent seizures, though it may take some time to work.
Somehow, Haley’s aunt found out about the wish-granting charity for children with life-threatening illnesses called Kids Wish Network; soon, Haley’s mother, JoAnne, was giving them a call. Once referred to the charity, it wasn’t long before Haley was assigned to Wish Coordinator, Jill, who was more than ready to grant the little girl’s fondest wish of visiting Walt Disney World. Of course, with Jill, there was nothing too simple about a Disney wish and she set about organizing the most fantastic Orlando adventure for Haley and her family including tickets to all of the biggest Orlando theme parks, a stay at the magnificent Regal Sun Resort and even dinner at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater!
“Haley had an awesome time. It was everything that she could wish for,” said Haley’s mother, JoAnne. “Jill did a good job” organizing Haley’s wish; she did so well, in fact, that it was the “trip of a lifetime” for the little girl. Everything was perfect for Haley and her family, right down the hotel room, which overlooked bustling Downtown Disney and even gave the family an unparalleled view of Epcot Center’s nighttime fireworks spectacular.
While in Orlando, Haley had the chance to visit plenty of theme parks including Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot Center, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, SeaWorld and Universal Studio’s Islands of Adventure! Haley had the most wonderful time riding rides and was thrilled at every turn. There was so much to see and do that she was filled to the brim with excitement and laughter. As much as she enjoyed the roller coasters, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Spiderman ride, there were two things that really made the trip her “trip of a lifetime,” and those were meeting Scooby Doo at Universal Studios and having breakfast at her hotel with Pluto and Goofy.
Haley’s wish trip to Orlando was simply a dream and, like a dream, it was over all too soon. Since they’ve gotten back, Haley and her family have delighted in reminiscing about their trip and thanking their “Guardian Angels” in Orlando and back at Kids Wish Network for all the fantastic memories.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Haley’s wish extra special: Chili’s, Lake Area Radio Klub, Ramada Minneapolis Airport West, Codington County Post #17 American Legion, Chick-Fil-A, Compassion Partners, WonderWorks, Pirates Dinner Adventure and the Regal Sun Resort.
