From Illinois to California: Sakysha’s Disney Wish Come True

DEKALB, Ill. – A young lady suffering from a life-threatening illness wishes for a trip to Disneyland in California and has her wish granted through Kids Wish Network.

Someone once said that “If it’s not worth talking about, it’s not worth doing.” For the parent of a suffering child whose number one wish has been granted, their joy is definitely worth talking about. After talking to the parent of a child who had a wish granted through the children’s charity, Kids Wish Network, Nyla decided to give them a call to see if they could give her wonderful daughter, Sakysha, something special to brighten her days.

You see, at seven months old, Sakysha was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which is term given to a range of neurological afflictions that interfere with the messages sent from the brain to the muscles. These afflictions cause various muscle problems including limb spasticity and a limited range of motion. Because of this, Sakysha has endured hip and eye surgery, as well as surgeries to her hamstrings, wrists and arms to release the muscle tension caused by her disorder; she also has scoliosis. She is wheelchair bound and does not have full use of her hands. In addition, Sakysha does not speak, but instead communicates through a board, gestures and pointing with her eyes.

It was Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, who was told that Sakysha’s wish was to visit Disneyland in California; with the help of Wish Funding Specialist, Doris, and some marvelous sponsors, Sakysha’s wish was granted in style. Not only did Vanessa send Sakysha and her family to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, she also included a stay at the beautiful Anaheim Marriott, tickets to Universal Studios and dinners at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Tony Roma’s and The White House restaurant!

According to Nyla, Sakysha truly enjoyed her trip to “the most magical place on earth.” While there, her daughter’s smile did not leave her face: “That’s all she [Sakysha] was doing: smiling.” The highlight of the trip for Sakysha seemed to be meeting Minnie Mouse. Upon greeting the famous character, Sakysha’s grin grew wider and she laughed; she was having the time of her life.

“Everyone there was so helpful,” said Nyla of the Cast Members at the Disney parks. And, much to her surprise, Sakysha was able to ride most of the attractions at the parks due to their being extremely handicap accessible. Their visit to Universal Studios was fun-filled as well and Nyla remarked that the experience was like walking into a cartoon. Everything was perfect, right down to the dinners.

“We are so grateful for everything you all [Kids Wish Network] did for us,” said Nyla. “Vanessa was so helpful…it was all so nice.” Sakysha’s wish turned out to be grander than anything either she or her family could have ever hoped for and that’s just the way Kids Wish Network wanted it to be.

For making Sakysha’s wish extra special, Kids Wish Network would like to thank: Mr. Don Buckner, Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure, Captain Kidd’s Restaurant, Anaheim Marriott, Universal Studios, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., WHEELERS Handicapped Accessible Van Rentals, Tony Roma’s and The White House.
