Burleson, TX – Seven-year-old Vanessa is an incredibly happy girl with an infectious smile. A typical little girl in many ways, she loves listening to music and playing on her toy piano. She’s also crazy about her dog, Lexus. This special youngster is never happier however, than when she gets to go horseback riding. Vanessa will be doing quite a bit of that thanks to her friends at Kids Wish Network.
Kids Wish Network is a nationally recognized 501 (c) 3 organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Vanessa’s mother, Jennifer, learned about the charity after a close family relative received a phone call from one of Kids Wish Network’s professional fundraisers and submitted Vanessa’s name. Jennifer was contacted by the organization shortly and sent an application. She was hopeful that after all her brave daughter had been through, she would qualify for a wish.
Vanessa was born with cerebral palsy. C.P. is a group of brain disorders that are typically characterized by spasticity and seizures. The condition has left Vanessa confined to a wheelchair and with limited use of her hands. Vanessa is also blind.
While Vanessa’s condition prevents her from doing so many things that other little girls her age do, there is one thing that she can do: she can ride horses. So, when she was approved for a wish with Kids Wish Network, she knew just what she wanted for her special wish: Vanessa wanted horseback riding lessons.
Vanessa’s Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jill, immediately got to work. She contacted Wings of Hope Equitherapy, an organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding lessons to disabled children and adults. Wings of Hope agreed to discount a year’s worth of riding lessons for Vanessa and a local Wal-Mart and the Lonestar Independents Motorcycle Club each made a generous donation towards the lessons.
Thanks to all of these very special ‘Guardian Angels’, this next year will be an extraordinary one for Vanessa, who now knows that dreams really do come true after all!
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Vanessa’s wish come true: Lonestar Independents Motorcycle Club, Wal-Mart #2977 and Wings of Hope Equitherapy.
