Mt. Pleasant, SC – A local teen gets his dream computer with a little help from Kids Wish Network.
Eighteen-year-old Tyler loves doing things that many young men his age like doing: he plays games on his Playstation and Xbox, was a member of the school band and likes to skateboard. Tyler even has a scholarship for the chance to become exactly what he wants to be: a computer technician. Tyler had everything laid out for his future until a trip to the doctor led to something completely unexpected. In January, Tyler was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. This is a type of cancer that primarily affects the lymph system. He also has Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which is an arrhythmia caused by an abnormal electrical pathway in the heart. Tyler has endured both chemotherapy and radiation treatments in order to neutralize the cancer, but has lost all of his hair in the process. He still has a long way to go, but he’s taking it all in stride.
When a social worker at the hospital where Tyler was being treated mentioned Kids Wish Network and the wishes that they grant to kids and teens with life-threatening illnesses, his parents knew that this was something they could do to thank their son for being so brave. It wasn’t long before Tyler was assigned to Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, to whom he told his one wish: to have a brand new desktop computer. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist, Doris, and some very special sponsors, Vanessa set it up so that Tyler could have the computer of his dreams.
Tyler’s big day arrived and he went down to his local Wal-Mart to pick up the computer and printer that Vanessa had arranged for him. He finally had his computer in his hands and was amazed at the ease of attaining his wish: “Everything went real smooth.” Since that day, Tyler has not left the glow of the computer screen for long and claims, “I use the computer every day.” According to him, “everything works great!” The Acer desktop was just what the teen wanted and needed to hone his computer-tech skills.
With his wish fulfilled, Tyler is simply grateful for the wonderful gifts and the computer from which he constantly exchanges instant messages with his closest friends. His wish experience was truly one that he will never forget, with the great items he got and the “really nice” Wish Coordinator who put everything together.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following sponsors for making Tyler’s wish come true: Wal-Mart, Mayor Hallman and Hammerton Lodge #332AFM.
