Machesney Park, IL- Kids Wish Network sends a little boy with leukemia to the Atlanta Motor Speedway to meet one of his favorite NASCAR stars, Tony Stewart.
Six-year-old Jessie is an extremely active kid. He loves to play games, work out his hand-eye coordination on his Playstation and his Xbox and watch his favorite television shows. Though he does a lot, Jessie’s favorite thing is NASCAR racing. He watches all the races he can and even his favorite toys are race cars! The only thing that puts a damper on his active lifestyle is his battle with cancer.
Jessie has acute myelogenous leukemia. AML is a cancer of the blood-forming tissue, primarily affecting the bone marrow and lymph nodes. Since his diagnosis, Jessie has undergone aggressive chemotherapy treatments and must be monitored carefully by his doctors. Sadly, the chemotherapy has caused him to lose most of his vision in his left eye as well as some of his hearing.
After his parents found out about Kids Wish Network through some of the doctors who were treating Jessie, they knew he would really benefit from having a wish granted. He was quickly assigned to Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, and Jessie got to choose a wish: to meet NASCAR great, Tony Stewart! Vanessa knew that she could pull this off and more, so she organized an entire weekend in Georgia at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Not only would he get to watch a real NASCAR race in person, he would also get to visit the pits, watch practice runs and meet his idol, Tony Stewart! Outside of the racetrack, Vanessa pulled some strings and sent Jessie and his family to Stone Mountain Park, The World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium as well.
According to Jessie’s mother, Kim, Jessie was “really excited” about meeting Tony Stewart. In fact, “he was kinda nervous, so he didn’t talk much” to Mr. Stewart, but beforehand, Jessie was “nonstop” in talking about him. Jessie loved his wish so much that he did not want to leave the track and was upset when the family had to leave Georgia. However, since the family has gotten back to Illinois, Jessie has regained his talkative nature and has told everyone at his school, teachers and classmates alike, ALL about his meeting with Tony Stewart!
This wish did Jessie “a world of good” and “he has been excited ever since,” says his mother, Kim. She thanks Kids Wish Network for everything they did for her little boy and would like to thank Jessie’s Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, in particular for being so nice and helpful. If any one organization could make Jessie’s life just a bit better, Kids Wish Network is proud to have done just that.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jessie’s wish extra special: Tyco Telecommunications, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Tony Stewart, Georgia Aquarium, Malone’s Bar & Grill, Stone Mountain Park, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Chuck E Cheese, World of Coca-Cola, Dollar Rent-A-Car, Olive Garden, and Sheraton Suites Galleria.
