Flint, MI – When she was just nine, now 17-year-old Joselyn of Flint was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent aggressive radiation treatments. Hopeful that the cancer was gone for good, Joselyn’s family was devastated when, in May of 2006, her doctors discovered that she had cancer in her small intestine. Joselyn immediately had surgery and since then has been in and out of the hospital enduring painful chemotherapy and radiation.
Recently, this brave teenager enjoyed a very special break away from her worries for a precious while thanks to her friends at Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Joselyn’s mother, Wafaa, learned about the charity from a family friend and called in hopes that after all Joselyn had been through she would be eligible for a wish.
The family was overjoyed to later learn from Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jessica, that Joselyn was approved. When Jessica asked Joselyn for her number one wish, she didn’t hesitate: she wanted to go to Disneyland in California.
Jessica got right to work. She booked airfare for Joselyn and her family to Los Angeles, arranged for hotel accomodations in the area as well as fun activities and of course, secured tickets to Disneyland. Wish Funding Specialist, Wendy, was able to garner the support of some folks in the community who wanted to help sponsor Joselyn’s trip. It would truly be a trip that Joselyn will never forget!
During her stay in Los Angeles, Joselyn took full advantage of everything that Jessica had planned for her. In addition to visiting Disneyland, Joselyn went to Knott’s Berry Farm and also got to stop by Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum.
Joselyn returned home from her adventure with plenty of pictures and even more wonderful memories. This incredibly special girl learned that sometimes, dreams really do come true.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Joselyn’s wish extra special: Anaheim Marriott, Clio Eagles #3609 Ladies Auxiliary, Courtyard Los Angeles LAX, Disneyland, Fraternal order of Eagles 2427, Hertz LAX, Knights of Columbus #2365, Knott’s Berry Farm, Red Robin and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
